مقاله

Before 2020, working from home was a rare privilege. Within weeks of the pandemic, millions of office workers found themselves holding meetings from their kitchen tables. Years later, the debate continues: is remote work the future, or a temporary experiment?

For many employees, the benefits are obvious. Without a daily commute, they save hours every week — time they can spend with family, exercising or simply sleeping longer. Surveys consistently show that remote workers report higher job satisfaction, and many say they are more productive without constant interruptions from colleagues.

Employers have noticed advantages too. Companies can hire talented people who live far away, and some have saved significant amounts on office rent.

Yet the picture is not entirely positive. Many remote workers struggle to “switch off”, because home and office have become the same place. Others feel isolated; video calls, however frequent, cannot fully replace the casual conversations that happen by the coffee machine. Younger employees in particular may miss out on learning from experienced colleagues simply by watching how they work.

There are also questions of fairness. Remote work is mostly available to office workers, not to nurses, drivers or shop staff, which may widen existing inequalities.

Perhaps the answer lies somewhere in between. “Hybrid” arrangements — two or three days in the office, the rest at home — are becoming increasingly common. They seem to offer the flexibility people value without losing the human connection that makes a team work. As one manager put it, “The office is no longer where we work. It's where we meet.”

  6. Hybrid work may be the best balance. (کار ترکیبی شاید بهترین تعادل باشد.)
