قهرمان، مدال، رکورد شکستن، رقابت کردن، نایب‌قهرمان؛ موفقیت (و شکست) ورزشی را مثل یک گزارشگر توصیف کنید.
متن آموزش
ایران در کشتی، وزنه‌برداری و تکواندو سابقه‌ی درخشانی دارد. بیایید با همین‌ها یاد بگیریم چطور درباره‌ی مسابقه‌ها حرف بزنیم.
پاراگراف یک گزارشگر
At the World Championships, the young Iranian weightlifter qualified easily for the final. Nobody expected much — he was the underdog. But with his last lift, he broke the world record and took the gold medal. The reigning champion finished as runner-up with silver. It was the greatest achievement of his career.
(در مسابقات قهرمانی جهان، وزنه‌بردار جوان ایرانی راحت به فینال راه یافت. کسی رویش حساب نمی‌کرد، اما با آخرین حرکتش رکورد جهان را شکست و طلا گرفت. قهرمان دوره‌ی قبل با نقره نایب‌قهرمان شد. این بزرگ‌ترین افتخار دوران ورزشی‌اش بود.)
فعل‌های رقابت

رکوردها
- set a record — اولین بار به یک رکورد جدید رسیدن (رکورد زدن)
- break a record — بهتر از رکورد قبلی عمل کردن (رکورد شکستن)
- hold the record — دارنده‌ی رکورد بودن
«رکورد زد / رکورد شکست» در فارسی دقیقاً با set / break جور است.
برای افتخارهای شخصی هم
این واژگان فقط برای ورزش نیست: I set a personal record in my 5 km run. (در دوی پنج کیلومتر رکورد شخصی‌ام را زدم.) She qualified as a doctor. (مدرک پزشکی گرفت.) Winning a scholarship was my biggest achievement.
